Project Update: October

Yet another month has gone by and that means it’s time for an update! I didn’t make a huge dent in the nail polishes in the project because there are a lot of them but that’s OK since there are still two months left of this year.

I managed to use up one polish that has been in the project since the beginning. I am speaking of Isadora Icy Purple. I also used up the last package of my Sally Hansen Real Nail Polish Strips that I had left. I usually don’t have patience to wear the same manicure for more than two days and it would feel like a waste to wear a manicure like the nail polish strips only a couple of days. I had an opportunity to wear a manicure longer because of a trip out of town and I used the strips then. I also used up the base coat from Dermosil as well as Seche Restore.

The Empties

The Empties

Of the 21 nail polishes left in my project I used 10 of them in the last month. Some of them I used more than once and some only once. I think it was during October that I added a polish into the project. I added Essie Blanc because I have another white in the collection and the Essie one is the older of the two. Here are pictures of the polishes that I used last month. The progress doesn’t show very well in the pictures, unfortunately.

Essie Blanc, Natural Code by Lumene Rosy Gold, Golden Rose 120, Depend 5

Essie Blanc, Natural Code by Lumene Rosy Gold, Golden Rose 120, Depend 5

As you can see the Golden Rose polish is still hanging in the project but I think there is now just enough polish for one manicure left in the bottle. I managed to find the polish I though would be a dupe for this polish, Essence Pink Parrot. It’s not an exact dupe but it’s close enough to replace this polish.

Rimmel Show Off, Rimmel Cocktail Passion, OPI Petal Soft, OPI Paint My Moji-Toes Red, Kone Helsinki U15

Rimmel Show Off, Rimmel Cocktail Passion, OPI Petal Soft, OPI Paint My Moji-Toes Red, Kone Helsinki U15

As far as the other project goes I only have three polishes left that I have not worn this year. I am sure I am able to finish this project in November.

Apart from buying the replacement for the Golden Rose polish I didn’t buy any polishes in October!

That’s all for this update!

Project Update: September

September didn’t really go as I had planned it. I had three goals for the month and I succeeded in meeting one of them. I wanted to use up one polish but I ended up on concentrating on using the polishes I hadn’t used yet this year, so I didn’t end up finishing any of the polishes. One of my goals was also to not buy any new polishes but I found some offers too good to pass up and ended up buying five new polishes. Luckily I didn’t go over the line of 100 polishes because I really don’t want to have over 100 polishes anymore. Needless to say, I won’t be buying new nail polishes for the rest of the year (except that one from Essence if I can find it…).

The goal I succeeded in meeting last month was to use the polishes I didn’t use last year. This was the easiest goal to meet because I only had two polishes left in this category. So at least one of my projects for this year has been completed! Yay!

As far as the other projects go, the other is doing great and the other not so much. But it’s hard to focus on both of these projects at once because of their different nature. At the end of August I had 33 nail polishes that I hadn’t used this year and since I focused on this project this month, I now have seven left!

I have decided not to attempt to use all of my polishes next year because this is the project that has caused the most stress for me. When I use a polish just for the sake of using it, I end up using it when I don’t really want to wear that color. This past month I found myself hating even some of my favorite polishes because I used them just for the sake of finishing the project. So next year I will use the polishes I feel like using at the time, apart from having some smaller projects, of course.

I mentioned before that I didn’t make much process in using up the polishes in the project but I want to show you the little process that I did make. So here are the polishes in the project that I used last month:

Isadora Icy Purple, Kone Helsinki U15, OPI Petal Soft, Rimmel Show Off and Golden Rose 120

Isadora Icy Purple, Kone Helsinki U15, OPI Petal Soft, Rimmel Show Off and Golden Rose 120

I managed to use Isadora’s Icy Purple twice last month, that lowest black line you see on the bottle is where the polish was yesterday before I applied it to my nails. If I tried hard enough, I should be able to use this up in October. I have found that I really like the color but I don’t fancy the frosty finish that it has.

The next polish is Kone Helsinki’s U15 which I have so far only paired with the previous polish I mentioned but I will definitely use it on its own and with other polishes in the future. For some reason, in the picture it looks like the the lowest line is in the wrong place but the polish is actually where the lowest line is.

OPI’s Petal Soft got some use last week when I paired it with two different polishes that I hadn’t used yet this year. This polish has flower shaped glitter pieces in it that tend to stick out when they are on the nail so I decided not to use them in the manicures I did last week. I may do that in the future as well.

Rimmel’s Show Off is the next polish in the picture and it is not a polish I used last month. I put this on yesterday on my toes but decided to include it in this post anyway. I don’t remember if I mentioned this in my last post but I chose this in the project to see if I like to use this polish or is it something that I could potentially get rid of. At the moment, I think I could live without this polish, but I will use it a couple more times just to be sure.

The last polish in the picture is Golden Rose 120 which you may be bored to see still in the project because it has had so little left for a couple of months now and I still haven’t used it up yet. But I haven’t had the heart to use it up yet because I like it so much and these kind of holographic polishes are hard to find. I will have to use it up before winter, though, because it has been in the project for so long.

My goals for October are:

- to use up one polish

-to refrain from buying new polishes

So that was all for today’s post, thank you for reading and see you next time!

So… I added some polishes to the project

Since I have only three polishes left from the original project, I decided to add some. It took a while to decide what polishes to add and I’m still not sure if this set is going to work for me. When choosing colors for the project I usually think about which polishes I want to get rid of but when it comes to actually using them I find that I don’t want to wear them that often. I guess some polishes are cool only when you wear them a few times a year. I tried to choose a variety of shades so that I would have a lot to pick from but I won’t know if this works until I’ve tried it for a month or so.

I have decided to start using these nail polishes that I’m about to show you when I have used most of the polishes I own at least once this year. There are a couple that I will reserve for the winter time because I know I wouldn’t enjoy wearing them any other time. I have 21 polishes left that I haven’t used this year and after they are used I will use only the polishes in the project until the end of the year.

First, let’s take a look at the polishes I have not yet used this year. The polishes that I have bought recently are included.

The unused ones

The unused ones

I will use the unused ones first because I know it would bother me if I didn’t.

Now, let’s take a look at the polishes that I chose into the project. There are quite a few…

Depend 255, Isadora Icy Purple, Golden Rose 120, Make up Store Asun, Natural Code by Lumene Rosy Gold, Depend 5

Depend 255, Isadora Icy Purple, Golden Rose 120, Make up Store Asun, Natural Code by Lumene Rosy Gold, Depend 5

On the left here you can see the three polishes that are left from the previous project. The other three are new ones and I’d like to say a little bit about why I chose them into the project. This bottle of Make up Store Asun is the second bottle I own and you may remember that I used up one of these earlier this year. I’ve decided to try to use up this bottle as well because the glitter settles very quickly to the bottom of the bottle and it drives me nuts! Also, this polish seems to have very few of the bigger glitters as opposed to other glitter polishes I have in my collection.

Rosy Gold by Natural Code by Lumene is a textured polish and I’ve noticed that I am pretty much over the textured trend at this point. You will notice that there are other textured polishes in this project as well as this one. I’m hoping that Rosy Gold will be used up quite quickly because it is a small bottle.

Depend 5 is in the project because I like the polish in the fall time and I think I will want to wear this often. I am almost half way done with it already.

Color Club Holiday Splendor, Essie Lilacism, Kone Helsinki U15, L'oreal Confettis, Depend 412, Frank Evening Sky

Color Club Holiday Splendor, Essie Lilacism, Kone Helsinki U15, L’oreal Confettis, Depend 412, Frank Evening Sky

I chose Color Club Holiday Splendor to the project because I feel I am not liking it as much as I did before. And I seem to only want to wear it during the last two weeks of the year ad that seems like a very limited time-span for a nail polish. This is also a very thick polish, so I hope it will be easy to use up.

Essie Lilacism is in the project because it is one of the oldest bottles in my collection and because I bought a back-up for it in August. Actually I only bought the back-up because I wanted a bigger brush to use this bottle with since this came with a very tiny brush.

Kone Helsinki U15 is a few years old as well and while the polish is pretty low in the bottle I feel I haven’t given it enough love. Also, I dropped another bottle on top of this one and some of the glass broke off from the bottom of the bottle. I thought I’d better use up the bottle before it breaks altogether.

L’oreal Confettis is one of my favorite glitter nail polishes which is part of why I wanted to include it in the project. I may buy another bottle of this if I use it up this year.

Depend 412 is in the project because I have two polishes that are this color. The other is The Body Shop’s Got the Blues. I couldn’t decide which one to get rid of but felt that it is not clever to have dupes in the collection so I chose one of them in the project.

The last bottle on the right is a frankenpolish I made using Picture Polish Forget Me Not and Essie Play Date. The experiment worked and the result turned out to become one of my favorite polishes! If I finish this in the fall I will definitely make it again. I have decided to call all of my frankenpolishes (of which I currently  only have one) Franks and I will also come up with a name for them. This one is called Evening Sky.

Rimmel Coctail Passion, P2 Rich & Royal, Rimmel Show Off

Rimmel Cocktail Passion, P2 Rich & Royal, Rimmel Show Off

These Rimmel polishes have been in my collection for several years and especially Cocktail Passion hasn’t received very much love despite the fact that I love it. Not too long ago I noticed that my H&M Coral Road is exactly the same shade as Cocktail Passion and has a better formula too. But for some reason I can’t get rid of Cocktail Passion. So, I might as well add it into the project as I needed some coral in the set anyway!

Rimmel Show Off is a shade of pink that I normally only wear on my toes and usually it’s not clever to have a polish like that in one’s collection. But for some reason I can’t get rid of this one either, so I might as well include it in the project.

P2′s Rich & Royal needs to be included because I love to wear it and I have a similar shade that is newer.

OPI Petal Soft, Lucky Lucky Lavender, Paint My Moji-Toes Red, Magazine Cover Mouse, Kiss Me at Midnight

OPI Petal Soft, Lucky Lucky Lavender, Paint My Moji-Toes Red, Magazine Cover Mouse, Kiss Me at Midnight

I have ambitiously chosen five OPI bottles in the project. It’s ambitious because OPI bottles are so big. I don’t expect to finish all of these but if I manage to finish at least the liquid sand polishes and get the level down on many of them, I will be happy.

I am allowed to use the polishes in my core collection just as long as there is a polish from the project included in the manicure. Needless to say I won’t be allowed to buy new polishes this year. There is only one polish I can buy and it is Pink Parrot by Essence. I will allow myself to buy it because it seems like a good replacement for Golden Rose 120. I just hope that the collection (Exit to Explore) where that polish is comes to Finland.

This project will be a kind of a punishment for me for buying so many polishes in the past month and a half. In the spring I thought that I had learned to manage the buying of nail polishes but I was wrong and it makes me very disappointed in myself.

There will be updates at the end of the month as usual, although this month will probably still be spent on using the unused polishes.

I think this was all I had to say this time. Until next time!

Project Update: August

August was a very productive month! I hoped to finish at least one nail polish but I managed to finish three! The down side is that I also managed to buy twelve new nail polishes… Oops. To balance things, I removed some polishes from the collection and I now own 90 bottles. I am pretty happy with my collection at the moment, there are only a couple of polishes that are under observation, so to speak. This means that I am not sure whether I want to keep them in my collection or could I possibly live without them.

In this post I will show you the progress with the polishes in the project as well as the polishes I bought this month.

End of August

End of August

The upper line indicates the level of the polish when I took the polish into the project and the lower line shows you where the polish was at the last update. I have removed all the other lines because they were unnecessary and kind of confusing.

The first polish on the left is Depend 255 which I included in the project right at the beginning but soon dismissed it because I didn’t feel like wearing it during spring and summer. I will now take it back into the project and I am excited to wear it again. I have not made any progress on it yet. The next polish is Golden Rose 120 which I thought about focusing on in August to use up however, I didn’t want to finish it quite yet so I only wore it once in August. Isadora Icy Purple was also on hold for most of the summer because it  wasn’t a color I would want to wear during summer either but I did wear it once in August and I will be wearing it more often now that the season is changing into autumn.

And now on to the polishes I finished! The three polishes I finished this month are Mavala Sweet, Isadora Cotton Candy and Lumene Pink Ribbon. Of the three Isadora Cotton Candy was the first to be finished and it took only two uses from the lowest line marked. I used three coats to be able to use it up faster. I found myself having mixed feelings about this polish; I liked the lovely purple shade of it but hated the fact that it was matte. Adding top coat made it look weird because of the texture underneath. I am very happy that this is finally finished!

Next I used up Mavala Sweet. I thought I had better use this up while it’s still summer because this was one of those shades that look orange in indoor lighting and I don’t like orange on my nails. At the beginning of the month I was only about half way through the bottle but managed to use it up anyway. With this I also often put on three coats because the finish was streaky with just two coats.

The last polish I finished this month was Lumene’s Pink Ribbon nail polish. This was relatively easy to use up as it only took four applications from the lowest line you can see on the bottle. All in all I got only seven manicures from this bottle which tells you just how thick textured polishes are.

Having finished four polishes during this project I now have only three left from the original bunch. I’m thinking of adding new ones into the mix but I haven’t decided on the particular polishes yet, so I will keep you updated on that front. But now onto the polishes I bought this month.

OPI Mini Hello Kitty Set

OPI Mini Hello Kitty Set

On my trip to Mallorca I bought this adorable set of mini OPI’s. They are six of the polishes in the OPI Hello Kitty collection. It comes with Small + Cute = <3, Look at My Bow!, Spoken from the Heart, 5 Apples Tall, Super Cute in Pink and Say Hello Kitty!. These mini OPI bottles were so cute I couldn’t resist!

Depend 481, Depend 393, Sensinity 91, Bourjois Turquoise Block, Sally Hansen Giant Peach, Picture Polish Forget Me Not

Depend 481, Depend 393, Sensinity 91, Bourjois Turquoise Block, Sally Hansen Giant Peach, Picture Polish Forget Me Not

So I went a little crazy with the turquoise nail polishes this month… The Depend nail polishes were definitely not necessary to buy but I’m sure they will be used up eventually and I hope I will actually like them. The Sensinity nail polish as well as the Bourjois nail polish I have already tried and I can’t bring myself to regret buying them. The Sensinity polish is supposed to be scented but I didn’t smell anything. That’s fine though since I didn’t buy it for the scent. The Sally Hansen polish I had looked at many times at a certain store but could never justify myself to buy it thinking I had too many similar polishes. That particular store went bankrupt recently and they were getting rid of everything at a lower price, so I had to buy this when it was sold 50% off of the normal price. Picture Polish Forget Me Not was a little disappointing because it is much more blue on the nail than it is in the bottle. I ended up trying to make a frankenpolish with this to make it a bit more to my liking. I used the empty bottle that used to hold Depend 34 which I used up in July. You can see the polish in the picture below.

A England Crown of Thistles, Frankenpolish

A England Crown of Thistles and Frankenpolish

I mixed Essie’s Play Date with Forget Me Not to make it a bit more purple. I haven’t tried it on my nails yet but I like it in the bottle. Next to the frankenpolish is an A England polish I got back in May but I don’t think I have shown it to you yet. I already wore it back in May but it wasn’t a spring / summer shade so I am excited to wear it in the fall.

As far as the other projects go, I have made progress on them as well. Of the polishes I didn’t wear in 2015 I have now only two of them left. At the end of July I had seven. I think I will be able to complete this project this month.

The third project is to use every single polish I have at least once. In July I had 34 polishes that were untouched and now there are 33. I would have made a lot more progress with this if I hadn’t bought so many new ones. But 33 is still good considering the fact that at the end of last year I had 56 polishes I hadn’t managed to use at all.

Goals for September are:- to use up one polish
- to use the two polishes I didn’t use last year
- to refrain from buying new polishes!!

I think that was everything I had to share this time. Next I will show you the last part of my collection, namely the base and top coats. It’s the least interesting part so I saved it for last.

The Collection: Miscellaneous

We have finally reached the second to last part of my collection posts! This will be the last part in the colored nail polish category as the last part will be of all of my base and top coats as well as treatments.

In this post I will be going through all of the polishes in my collection that don’t have enough in one color category to make up one big one. This includes whites, yellows, muds, stripers and rosy golds. In this post I will also be showing you my Konad stamping polishes.

Here are the polishes that I will talk about in this post:

IMG_0480 pieniAs with other categories I have done some decluttering to get rid of the ones I don’t use and also since taking the picture I have used up a polish that appears in the picture.

Let’s take a look at the muddy shades first.

P2 Rich & Royal, Essie Chinchilly

P2 Rich & Royal, Essie Chinchilly

I have owned P2′s Rich & Royal for many years, ever since my friend bought it for me in her trip to Germany. It was a color I was interested in because it was supposed to be a dupe for Sephora by OPI’s Metro Chic that used to be hyped around Youtube. That line of polishes has been discontinued since then and no one ever talks about the polish anymore. When I first got the P2 polish I wasn’t sure I liked it but last winter I loved it when I wore it! I loved it so much I even bought another bottle of the same kind of shade, namely Essie’s Chinchilly. On the nail they look pretty much the same. I thought I would keep them both, however, as long as I will try to use up one of them. And as the P2 polish is the older one and I’ve already used more of it, I will try to use up that one. I will put it in my project as soon as I have used up one more bottle from the ones I already have in the project. As I said in my last post, one of my goals for August is to use up one bottle in the project. I am dying to use this already, because I have been seeing several people wearing these kinds of shades even in the summer, both on their fingers and their toes. I don’t think I have ever tried this shade on my toe nails so I am excited to try and see how I like it.

OPI I Just Can't Cope-acabana, Gina Tricot Sunny

OPI I Just Can’t Cope-acabana, Gina Tricot Sunny

I only have two yellows in my collection, or I should say ‘had’ because I got rid of OPI’s I Just Can’t Cope-acabana. I don’t wear yellow all that often and when I do, it’s pastel yellow that I reach for.

Sally Hansen White On, Essie Blanc, Natural 2 Way Art Pen

Sally Hansen White On, Essie Blanc, Naturel 2 Way Art Pen

Of the three polishes in this picture I have only one left. Sally Hansen’s White On I used up earlier this year and Naturel’s 2 Way Art Pen with silver glitter I sold because I don’t use striping polishes anymore. I had already sold all of my other polishes that had a thin brush for the same reason. Since using up the Sally Hansen white polish, I have bought a new and cheaper white polish to use on my swatch wheels. It is Essence’s Wild White Ways.

Natural Code by Lumene Dark Sparkle and Rosy Gold, Mac Soiree

Natural Code by Lumene Dark Sparkle and Rosy Gold, Mac Soiree

These are my Christmas and New Year’s polishes and I never reach for them in the spring and summer time. Both of the Natural Code by Lumene polishes I bought last holiday season but I didn’t get to use Dark Sparkle at all. That’s what you get when you have so many polishes to choose from.

My Konad stamping polishes

My Konad stamping polishes

As I’m steering away from doing nail art, having six Konad stamping polishes is a bit much. At first I only got rid of the forest green stamping polish as it was the most difficult one to match with other polishes. After a while, I decided to also get rid of the pastel purple one because it doesn’t show up over darker colors as well as the white does and over lighter colors it doesn’t show up at all.

So that is it! Those were all of my colored nail polishes! Since taking the pictures and writing posts I have gotten rid of some more polishes and for the most part I have been good at not buying new ones. I bought one in May and last week on my holiday to Mallorca I bought one full sized polish as well as a mini OPI set. I will show them to you after I show you my base and top coats and treatments. As of now, August 7th 2016, my nail polish collection consists of 86 full sized bottles of nail polish and six mini OPI nail polishes.

Project Update: July

Hi! Remember me? It’s been exactly two months since my last post where I said I would write soon but then I disappeared. There are several reasons as to why I didn’t write posts, first I got sick for two weeks, then I was lazy, then I began packing up my stuff because I moved, then I unpacked all of my stuff in my new place and for the last month in this new apartment there has been other stuff to do than to sit on a computer and write posts. There was a time when I didn’t wear nail polish for two weeks because of all the packing and unpacking but for the rest of the time I have been using my polishes and I am now exited to show you the progress I have made with the polishes in the project.

Here’s a picture where you can see the progress lines in the bottles:

The progress at the end of July

The progress at the end of July

I am happy to report that I have finished Depend 34! It is the polish far right in the picture and it doesn’t perhaps seem empty but there is not enough polish for a whole manicure. This was one of my favorite nail polishes so it was easy to use up. I think I will be able to live without this nail polish but it sure was a great summer color for both toes and fingers.

Going from right to left in the picture we have Isadora’s Icy Purple next. I wore this once in June and didn’t like it at all so I haven’t worn it since. It is definitely not a summer color for me but I think I will try to use it somehow before the fall since I have reached for this color only three times during this project which started at the beginning of April.

Lumene’s Pink Ribbon I have used even less times than Isadora’s Icy Purple. I have used it only twice in four months. It may be that in my mind it’s more a winter polish because it is so thick but also I might still think that it is difficult to remove even though I have a glitter base coat as well as glitter nail polish remover. I will have to make an effort to use this polish during August.

Golden Rose 120 is over half way down the bottle already and this is the polish I have reached the most often during the last four months. It has definitely been one of my favorite polishes besides Depend 34. So far I have used this polish five times. It will be interesting to see how many more manicures I can get from this bottle because the brush handle is relatively short and I’m not positive it will pick up everything but we shall see.

Mavala Sweet has been a surprise favorite in the bunch, I have worn it four times even though it hasn’t been in the project as long as the rest have, I took it in in early May.

I haven’t reached for Isadora’s Cotton Candy as much I thought I would. This textured polish seems like the perfect summer polish but I have only used it three times during the project. This is another polish I need to start wearing more since I want this polish to be gone before the winter. Why? you ask. I don’t know, it’s just a feeling I have :D

I have two other projects besides the just updated one. I don’t think I have mentioned them before. I’m trying to use the polishes I didn’t use at all in 2015 as well as use all the polishes I own at least once this year. I’m not sure if I will be able to accomplish the latter project but I’m doing pretty well on the other. At the beginning of the year I had 56 nail polishes which I hadn’t use at all last year. Now there’s only seven left I haven’t used. At the moment there are 34 nail polishes I own that I have not used this year. It won’t be the end of the world if I don’t use all of them this year since to me, the primary object is to use up some polishes.

I will have the next four weeks off from work so I hope to finish the collection posts then. Also, I will concentrate on using the five polishes in the primary project and possibly use up one of them in August.

The Collection: Neutrals

After a few week’s break it’s time to introduce the next set of polishes in my collection. This time we are going to go through the neutrals. There are eight polishes that fit in this category and I got rid of two of them. I am on the fence about one of them but the rest I simply love so I’m not even contemplating on getting rid of those. These are the neutral nail polishes in my collection:

The Neutrals

The Neutrals

Now let’s take a closer look at the polishes.

Essie Spaghetti Strap, Muchi Muchi, Fiji and A Crewed Interest

Essie Spaghetti Strap, Muchi Muchi, Fiji and A Crewed Interest

Over half of this category consisted of Essie polishes and that would be fine if they were all different enough. Spaghetti Strap and Muchi Muchi were just too similar to keep both and at first I thought I would keep just one of them and had a hard time deciding which one to keep. In the end I decided to get rid of both, however, because of two reasons. One: I like polishes that are opaque and neither of these were. Two: I realized in the store that my polishes had lost their color because they should be light pink shades. My bottles didn’t have any pinkness to them at all.

Fiji and A Crewed Interest are among my favorite polishes and they are staying. A Crewed Interest starts to be a few years old so I may have to start using it more often to use it up before it goes bad.

Essie Eternal Optimist, Rimmel Peachella, Depend 347, Mavala Sweet

Essie Eternal Optimist, Rimmel Peachella, Depend 347, Mavala Sweet

Essie’s Eternal Optimist is a lovely darker neutral shade that I like to pair with Essie’s glitter polish A Cut Above. I hadn’t realized that these two nail polishes go together until I saw that they sell the polishes in a set during Christmas time. Rimmel’s Peachella is next to the Essie polish and I bought it to see if it would replace Essie’s A Crewed Interest once I have used it up, but it’s not a dupe because Peachella is darker than A Crewed Interest. I prefer the lighter version but the darker Peachella is not bad either. This is the polish I am on the fence about but I’m keeping it for now because I thought I would try and add some white polish in it to make it lighter and maybe get the color a bit more like A Crewed Interest.

Depend 347 is one of the polishes that was sent to me in a subscription box one time and this is the only one that I have kept because this is something that I actually like and wear. First I thought it would be one of those sheer pinks that hardly cover anything but it actually covers the nail pretty well. I’m glad this came in the box because I probably wouldn’t have bought it if it hadn’t.

The last polish to mention in this bunch is Mavala’s Sweet. This is a polish to be used in the spring and summer when you don’t have to use as much artificial lighting. This looks much better in daylight than indoors under artificial lights, in which it looks orange. And I don’t like orange nail polish.

So those were the neutral polishes in my collection. I will probably get another post out pretty soon so that I would finally finish this series.

So, see you soon!

The Collection: Reds

It is time for the fourth to last part of my nail polish collection! This post will feature all of my reds. After this all we have left are my pinks, neutrals and miscellaneous nail polishes. Also, if you want to see all of the base and top coats I have, that would make another post. So technically this would be the fifth to last part of my collection. But who’s counting?

I have ten bottles that fit in this category and here they are:

The Reds

The Reds

Most of these polishes in this category are fall and winter time shades but there are one or two that are appropriate for spring and summer. Of these ten shades I was able to remove one.

Let’s take a closer look at the polishes!

China Glaze Peppermint to Be, Zoya Arianna, OPI Magazine Cover Mouse

China Glaze Peppermint to Be, Zoya Arianna, OPI Magazine Cover Mouse

In this first picture, two of the three polishes were bought last December, they are the one in the middle and the one on the left. The site where I sometimes buy nail polish from had an offer on China Glaze polishes and of course I had to buy one! At first, I thought about buying Son of a Nutcracker from the Cheers collection but ended up ordering Peppermint to Be from the same collection instead. I couldn’t get Son of a Nutcracker out of my mind, though, so I ended up ordering that one later, too. At the same time, since I was making an order, I ordered another polish that I had longed for a while, not because it was a particularly beautiful color, but because of its name. I am speaking of Zoya’s Arianna. I got it so that I could have a polish in my collection that had my name on it:

Zoya Sarianna?

Zoya Sarianna?

I know it’s lame but I can’t help it! Arianna is not actually a bad color but it would look better on my nails if it had a little less blue in it.

Next to Zoya’s Arianna is OPI’s Magazine Cover Mouse which is one of their liquid sand polishes a.k.a. textured polishes. It looks like I have used a ton of it but textured polishes are so thick that you use up a lot more polish in one manicure than with regular polishes. You may remember this polish from my favorites post and it still is one of my favorites!

OK, moving on to the next set:

OPI All I Want for Christmas (is OPI), OPI Red, From A to Z-urich

OPI All I Want for Christmas (is OPI), OPI Red, From A to Z-urich

All I Want for Christmas (is OPI) is one of the best nail polish names I have ever heard! So naturally I had to get the polish in my collection. I’m not sure if this is going to stay in my collection, though, I will have to try it on in the fall to remind myself what this looked like. This is definitely one of those polishes that I would not want to wear this time of year, so this would not be the appropriate time to try this on.

The polish in the middle of the picture is OPI Red which I really like on my toes. I don’t think I have ever tried it on my fingers. I bought this last year so I haven’t had time to play with it that much yet.

The only polish I’m getting rid of this time is OPI’s From A to Z-urich. It’s a lovely color but since I have several other dark red shades in my collection, I’d better reduce the amount by one at least.

Chanel April, OPI Paint My Moji-toes Red, Depend 5, Mavala Candy Apple

Chanel April, OPI Paint My Moji-toes Red, Depend 5, Mavala Candy Apple

Chanel’s April is very similar to OPI’s From A to Z-urich and I’d rather keep the Chanel one since I paid more money for it. OPI’s Paint My Moji-toes Red is one of my favorite colors to wear on my toes but I recently tried this on my fingernails and I loved it there, too. I think it’s a yellow based red which tend to suit me better. Depend 5 is more of a brick red nail polish and I like it a lot during the fall/winter time.

Mavala’s Candy Apple is the most recent addition to this collection of reds as I bought it in January. It was a freezing weather outside when I bought it, at least 23 degrees below zero and the top of the bottle didn’t handle the cold very well. Candy Apple is a red jelly polish, lovely for those jelly sandwiches that I like.

So that was it, all of my red polishes!

I don’t expect there to be a drastic change in this color category this year. I may get rid of All I want for Christmas (is OPI) and I might be able to use up Depend 5 but other than that I don’t think there will be changes. But that’s OK as long as I don’t get many new ones.

I hope you enjoyed reading this and see you till next time!

The Project: End of April Update

Around mid April I chose six nail polishes to include in the current project to use up. I allowed myself to use other polishes too so that I wouldn’t get bored. This means, though, that there won’t be rapid progress with the polishes but I think it is important that painting your nails remains fun.

I managed to use most of the polishes at least once even though I only started the project a few weeks ago. I marked the level of the polish in the bottle when I started so that it will be easier to see the progress I am making with the them.

Here’s the current situation in the project:

Depend 255, Golden Rose 120, Isadora Icy Purple, Depend 34, Lumene Pink Ribbon, Isadora Cotton Candy

Depend 255, Golden Rose 120, Isadora Icy Purple, Depend 34, Lumene Pink Ribbon, Isadora Cotton Candy

The polishes I didn’t get to use yet are the two polishes on the far left of the picture, namely Depend 255 and Golden Rose 120. Isadora’s Icy Purple I wore once on my fingers and once on my toes. Depend 34 was once on my toes and Lumene’s Pink Ribbon nail polish was once on my fingers. The Lumene polish wasn’t pictured when I introduced this current project but here you can see what it looks like if you didn’t know. Isadora’s Cotton Candy looks like it’s been used more than once but I actually used four coats when I used it. First I put on three coats because I felt that two weren’t enough. Then I made the mistake of putting a shiny top coat over it and I didn’t like the look of the polish when it was shiny. The polish dries to a matte finish like textured polishes do. So I put on one more coat to make it matte again.

In the month of April I also used my Depend Glitter Base Coat several times. I am about half way through the bottle at the moment which you can see in this picture:

Depend Glitter Base Coat and Seche Restore

I don’t think I have shown you the progress I’ve made with Seche Restore since I started to use it at the beginning of the year. As you can see I have used it a good bit this year and it is possible to use it up by the end of the year, I think.

I managed to use up two products this month, one nail polish and one cuticle oil.

I was happy to notice that there was less product left in the bottle of Sally Hansen’s cuticle oil than it looked like in the last update, so I was able to finish this finally! And as I have removed some polishes from my collection I have had to cover the swatches of them using white nail polish. Doing this I used up Sally Hansen’s White On nail polish. The only white nail polish I had left at this point was Essie’s Blanc and I didn’t want to use that to cover swatches, so I bought a cheaper white nail polish from Essence called Wild White Ways. You can see it in the next picture with the cuticle oil from Dermosil and keratin treatment from Trind I am using now as the Sally Hansen cuticle oil is finished.

Also, it will take a long time to use up since it has 15 ml of product in it. I don’t think it will be finished by the end of the year but it’s OK as long as I actually use it.

The last item I am going to mention and show you is the base coat I am currently using. It is Trind Keratin Nail Protector and it won’t take too long to use up as it is already over half way down the bottle.

So that was this month’s progress update! I am pretty happy with it as I used up a cuticle oil that has been around for some time and I got rid of some polishes that I didn’t want in my collection anymore.  Most of the polishes I got rid of you have seen in my collection posts. However, you don’t know that I decided to get rid of Essie’s Turquoise & Caicos because I noticed as I was looking at a bottle of it in the store that it looks different than mine. So I figured, either my bottle was faulty to begin with or it has changed over time. At first I thought I would get rid of the old bottle buy a new one but I decided not to get a new one at this time because I already have so many polishes in the turquoise family already.

Another polish I got rid of is also by Essie. I tried on Serial Shopper recently and noticed that despite it looking coral in the bottle, it is pure orange on the nails. And I never want to wear orange nail polish even though this particular orange looked nice on the finger nails. I absolutely hated it on my toes!

I am happy to report you that I now have 92 nail polishes in my collection! It is still a lot but it is starting to consist of only polishes that I like and this makes me really happy! There are still a couple that I am on the fence about and need to use them before making up my mind but on the whole I am a happy camper! And it looks like I don’t buy new nail polishes just because they’re nail polish anymore. It really helped to put them in color categories for the collection photos so that I see how many similar colors I already have.

I hoped you enjoyed reading this!

The next post will be another part of my collection posts!

The Collection: Misfits

This is the post where I will show all of the polishes that I didn’t know how to categorize.  Here you will see all the pinkish purples and denim blues and one or two true blue polishes. Pinkish purples don’t really belong with the pinks because there they look too purple. When put with the purples they look pink. Same with the denim blues: they fit neither with blues nor with purples. So they get their own category here. I have also included the berry polishes here because there are only three and they don’t really belong in with the pinks either.

There are eleven polishes that I am going to go through today. Four of them are in the pinkish purple range, three in the berry family, two or three in the denim blue category and one true blue shade. Here they are:

The Misfits

Let’s start with the pinkish purples and then move on to the berries and finally to the blues and denim blues.

Essie Splash of Grenadine, Color Club Sweetpea, Maybelline Pink Innocence

Essie Splash of Grenadine, Color Club Sweetpea, Maybelline Pink Innocence

These are three of the four pinkish purple polishes I have. Why I didn’t take a picture with all four, I’ll never know… :D The fourth one will be in with the berries.

The first polish on the left is Essie’s Splash of Grenadine and it was one of the first Essie nail polishes that I bought when Essie became readily available here. This was totally up my alley back then but I have moved away from the pinks and pinkish purples a bit, so this is not a favorite anymore but I am not able to get rid of it anyway. So it will stay for now.

I am getting rid of Color Club’s Sweetpea, though, because it is very similar to the Maybelline’s Pink Innocence that is pictured next to it. Sweetpea is more purple whereas Pink Innocence is more pink and I prefer the more pink version.

Essie Madison Ave-Hue, Foot Loose, Jamaica Me Crazy, OPI Dim Sum Plum

Essie Madison Ave-Hue, Foot Loose, Jamaica Me Crazy, OPI Dim Sum Plum

When you look at Essie Madison Ave-Hue in the bottle it definitely has some purple aspects to it but on the nail it looks pretty much just pink. It has some silver shimmer in it which shows up on the nail a bit and it makes the polish stand out from the rest of these pinkish purples. This may be on the chopping block later if I don’t wear it enough since I don’t wear pink very often on my finger nails. I do like pink on my toes so it may stay for that purpose.

Moving on to the berry polishes. I have three of them and that may be too much since I don’t really wear berry colors anymore either. Out of Essie’s Foot Loose, Jamaica Me Crazy and OPI’s Dim Sum Plum I’m getting rid of Essie’s Foot Loose because it was never my favorite, the two others were at some point favorites. Foot Loose also has a thin brush which is a tad bit difficult to work with.

OPI Kiss Me at Midnight, Essie Bikini So Teeny, The Body Shop Got the Blues, Depend 412

OPI Kiss Me at Midnight, Essie Bikini So Teeny, The Body Shop Got the Blues, Depend 412

OPI Kiss Me at Midnight is the only true blue polish I have. I don’t normally like blue on my nails but Kiss Me at Midnight I like perhaps because of the silver glitter pieces it has. It is also a textured polish. I have a feeling that I will grow out of the textured trend soon so I may have to use up this and all of my other textured polishes in the near future.

Essie’s Bikini so Teeny is impossible for me to categorize. When I look at it in the bottle I see some purple in it even though many describe it as a blue polish. This also has silver shimmer in it but with this polish it does not show up on the nail.

The Body Shop Got the Blues and Depend 412 are basically the same color except the Depend polish is a tad darker.  I can’t decide which polish to keep and which to get rid of, so I’m keeping them both for now.

So that’s all for now! Hope you enjoyed reading this!
