Project Update: April 2017

April was a lot better month than March in many ways. I managed to use up one polish as well as use most of the polishes in the other projects.

At the end of March I decided to challenge myself to use L’Oreal Confettis until it was used up. This took me a lot longer than I had anticipated. It took me almost four weeks when I thought I would be done in two weeks, tops. It took me longer because I had to add some clear polish in it from time to time as the base seemed to disappear and I didn’t want the glitter to be too thick on the nail. It was relatively easy to stick with the challenge because the polish went well with others, so I was able to use the polishes in projects two and three while I was challenging myself. There is still glitter pieces in the bottle that could be used if I added more clear polish in it but I don’t think I’m going to do that.

I also used up a bottle of Seche Vite last month. I tried to find other quick drying top coats that would be as good as Seche but this is the only one that dries quickly enough for me, so I’m sticking with it.

Like I said, I was able to use many kinds of polishes while using up Confettis, so I was able to make some progress on the main project last month. Here’s a picture where you can see where I am currently.

Make Up Store Asun, Essie Blanc, Essie Lilacism, Essie A Crewed Interest, OPI Say Hello Kitty

Make Up Store Asun, Essie Blanc, Essie Lilacism, Essie A Crewed Interest, OPI Say Hello Kitty

The lowest lines on the bottles show where the polishes are now. I was able to use all except Make Up Store Asun. I’m hoping to be able to use up three of these in May. As Lilacism is the one that has the least amount of polish in it, I’m sure I will finish that. Also, Say Hello Kitty should be easy to use up as well since it’s a small bottle anyway and it’s almost half gone already. In addition to these, I will try to use up A Crewed Interest as well since it’s the perfect color for this time of year.

As I’ve had very little progress all in all with using up polishes this year so far (with only four polishes used up) I will be concentrating on these five polishes in May. I will only allow myself to reach for other polishes if I figure out a way to use them with a polish in the main project.

I am thinking that this time I wouldn’t add polishes into the main project once one or two have been used up. This way I would be able to make more progress with the polishes that have been in the project longer. I might change my mind on this, though, we will see.

The project for using the polishes I bought last year is also going well, only two polishes left to use.

I have to say, I regret taking on projects two and three. They felt like a good idea at the beginning of the year but as with the project of using every single polish I owned last year, these other projects bring unnecessary stress. I though that with only a couple polishes per list would make them less stressful but it is not so. Fortunately, I could combine many of the polishes in projects two and three with Confettis, so I was able to use many of them last month. I’m hoping that by the end on May I will be able to forget these two projects.

OPI Magazine Cover Mouse, Deborah Lippmann Candy Shop

OPI Magazine Cover Mouse, Deborah Lippmann Candy Shop

Finally, here are the two polishes that I should be using once per month. I haven’t had the urge to use Magazine Cover Mouse in three months now. When I used it in January, though, I used it three times, so maybe the next time I use it, I will use it several times. We will see… I used Candy Shop three times last month to catch up on it.

As far as buying polish goes, I didn’t do so well. For most of the month I managed to fight the urge to buy polish. At one time, I was in line to pay for four polishes but came to my senses just in time. However, last week I saw that the Kylie Jenner nail polish sets from Sinful Colors were 10 euros a piece and I just had to buy one. The set came with six polishes, of which I kept four. So now I have over 100 polishes again, which makes me sad. At the same time I really liked the polishes from the Kylie Jenner set that I got. But from now on I have to really be sensible about what I buy because if I buy any more polishes I won’t be able to use up as many to compensate.

That’s all this time!

Project Update: March 2017

The month of March was successful in one way and not so successful in other ways. I managed to cross over several polishes in projects number two and three but I wasn’t able to use up any polishes in my main project. In fact, I sort of forgot what polishes I wanted to concentrate on. Also, I was weak and bought five (!) new polishes in March and I compensated this buying by getting rid of some polishes. I realized that it is ridiculous to first buy and then get rid of stuff to compensate, so I hope I will be able to limit my buying of polishes for the rest of the year.

Like I said, I had sort of forgotten which polishes were in the main project so I was all over the place last month. I used several of the polishes I want to use up this year but didn’t use one or two consistently, which would be better I you want to use something up. So at the end of the month I reminded myself which polishes I picked to use up at the beginning of the year and added a couple to replace the ones I have used up. So, these are the polishes I wish to use up next:

Make Up Store Asun, L'Oreal Confettis, Essie Blanc, Essie Lilacism, Essie A Crewed Interest, OPI Say Hello Kitty

Make Up Store Asun, L’Oreal Confettis, Essie Blanc, Essie Lilacism, Essie A Crewed Interest, OPI Say Hello Kitty

The black lines that are the highest or the only ones on the bottle mark the place where the polish was at the beginning of the year. So, I have made some progress with these polishes. Asun, Confettis, Blanc and Lilacism have been in the mix from the beginning, A Crewed Interest and Say Hello Kitty are new. I have currently a challenge going on, where I use one single polish until it is used up completely. This time the polish I’m using is L’Oreal’s Confettis. I have had to add some clear polish in the bottle because all the base seems to have disappeared, so using it up takes a little longer than I anticipated. The good thing is that I can use all kinds of polishes with it since it is a glitter polish, so at least the color of the manicure changes each time I use it.

As I was going through my collection once again, I decided that Orly’s Mermaid Tale is no longer essential in my collection. I have owned it for many years now but I have always found it difficult to pair the polish with others. Since I still liked how it looked, I didn’t want to sell it but use it in a different way, so I covered a page in my Wreck This Journal with the polish and used it up. I also managed to use up my Trind Keratin Nail Restorer.

Project number two, the polishes I only used on my toes last year, went pretty well last month, I used five polishes from this category and sold one of them (Picture Polish Enchanting). I have five more polishes to use in this category.

Project number three went equally well as number two; I used five of the polishes and sold three of them (Depend 481, Mavala Freesia and Essie Take Me to Thread). There are still eight more polishes to use of the ones I bought last year but only used once last year.

As far as the three polishes go, which I’m to use once every month, well, that didn’t go so well. OPI’s Kiss Me at Midnight I traded with a friend because I didn’t see myself wearing it again (I got a red polish in return) and OPI Magazine Cover Mouse and Deborah Lippmann Candy Shop didn’t end up on my nails at all in March.

I’m hoping to use up one to three polishes in April, let’s see how it goes!

Have a great spring!

Project Update: February 2017

Yet another month has passed and it’s time to show the results!

This month went a lot better when it comes to buying new polish. I didn’t buy any new ones this month! I only had one temptation during this month but with the help of a friend I managed not to buy it.

Project number one moved along slowly. I used three of the polishes in the main project and managed to use up one of them. Here is the progress in picture format:

L'oreal Confettis, OPI Say Hello Kitty, Make up Store Asun, Mavala Candy Apple

L’oreal Confettis, OPI Say Hello Kitty, Make up Store Asun, Mavala Candy Apple

I used L’oreal Confettis once this month and I hope to finish it next month. It’s difficult to see where the polish is now but it is about one millimeter under the black line. Say Hello Kitty by OPI replaced Look at My Bow! from the same company that I used up last month. The bottle was almost full when I added it into the project and you can see where the polish is now.

I’m happy that I used Make up Store Asun twice this month and thus finally made some progress on it, it is definitely possible to use up withing the next few months. Mavala Candy Apple is the one I used up this month; it was fun using this up because it’s a polish I really like. I did many jelly manicures  using this with OPI Say Hello Kitty and Make up Store Asun.

For next month I plan on focusing on the three other polishes in the picture that I didn’t finish this month. It would be great to use up all of them but I’m not certain if that will be possible.

Project number two consists of last year’s toenail polishes and I used one of them on my fingers this month. I haven’t concentrated too much on this project because there aren’t that many on the list.

Project number three consists of polishes I bought last year but only used once. I didn’t use any of these last month, so no progress here.

In addition, I used all three of the polishes that I use once per month, they are OPI Magazine Cover Mouse, OPI Kiss Me at Midnight and Deborah Lippmann Candy Shop. Also, I used up one sticker sheet this month.

I will continue my no buy in March, except on my trip abroad. I will allow myself to buy something while traveling if I see something nice, but it has to be something I don’t already have in my collection.

That’s all this time!

The Evolution of My Nail Polish Collection

I found some pictures that I have taken of my nail polish collection over the years and I thought it would be interesting to show them to you. I hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane as much as I did!

We start our journey in March 2009, just a few months after starting to wear nail polish regularly.

March 2009

March 2009

Lumene was changing the packaging for their nail polish at the time and a lot of the polish in the old packaging was on discount, so that is why there are a lot of the blue capped old Lumene nail polishes here. None of these polishes are in my collection currently and even if they were still available in stores, I probably wouldn’t buy them because my tastes have changed.  There are a lot of pink and red nail polishes but I’ve also started to branch out a bit with the green, yellow dark purple and white in the front row. I had started to do some nail art as well so that explains the odd colors. Notice the lack of turquoise nail polish!

The next picture I could find of the whole collection is from May 2012.

May 2012

May 2012

In three years the situation had gotten a little out of control. I’m guessing there are around 200 bottles here. I’m sure not long after this I realized I had way too much and started to downsize my collection. I see a lot of polishes that I have gotten rid of and I don’t miss them at all. A very small minority I have actually used up. But when you have this much polish it’s almost impossible to use up polishes.

The next picture is from January a year ago.

January 2016

January 2016

There is still a lot of polish in this picture! There is just a handful of polishes less in this picture as in the previous picture even though I had done a lot of downsizing at this point. This means of course that I was constantly buying new ones as well as getting rid of others. There’s not much sense in that, is there?

The last picture I’m going to show you is from January of this year.

January 2017

January 2017

Here we can finally see some progress! Unfortunately, after taking this picture I bought a couple more polishes, so when the overall number of polishes in this picture was less than 100, it’s now over. I am happy that I have made this much progress so far but I’m hoping to do even better this year!

I’m happy to report that I haven’t bought any new polishes in February! I did add a new polish to my collection this month, but I bought it in January, so it doesn’t count… right?!

This was all I wanted to write this time. I hope you liked it!

Polish I bought in January

This post will be a little contrary to what I’d like my blog to be, but I got a request to show the polish I bought in January. Naturally I like to do what the readers would like to see, so here we go!

The first picture shows the polishes I bought first as well as a new frankenpolish I made.

Depend 485, Depend 482, Picture Polish Eyre, Isadora Pink Syrup, Frank Strawberry Milk

Depend 485, Depend 482, Picture Polish Eyre, Isadora Pink Syrup, Frank Strawberry Milk

Depend 485 and 482 as well as Picture Polish Eyre were polishes I came across during my no buy at the end of last year, and since I still wanted them at the beginning of this year, I bought them. Depend 485, the first on the left in the picture, is a dupe to OPI’s Show Us Your Tips from the New Orleans collection. I was interested in the polish but wasn’t sure if I was going to like it on my nails. I didn’t want to spend that money on another OPI that potentially gets decluttered later. So when I learned that Depend 485 is an exact dupe for it I had to get it. I have already worn it and I love it :)

I was looking for a Zoya polish to add to my collection because I’d like to try another color from them. The polish that was different from what I already have and that would be something I like was Aster. But then I randomly came across Depend 482 which looks exactly like Aster so I decided to get the cheaper and smaller bottle instead. I haven’t had a chance to wear this yet, I think it is a more spring time shade.

Picture Polish Eyre came to my collection when I ordered some fast drying top coats from a website. This was also something that I had looked at at the end of last year but couldn’t get until January. I already wore this one and I like it.

After getting these three polishes I thought it would be a good time to start the challenge that I had planned for this year, namely to buy a polish only after I had used one up. But then I saw some jelly polishes in a clearance bin at a store and simply had to buy some! Luckily I was able to limit myself to only buying one and that was Isadora Pink Syrup. After buying this polish I decided to add Mavala Candy Apple to the project because the polishes are very similar. I haven’t worn Pink Syrup yet because I have concentrated on Candy Apple.

Last year I noticed that my bottle of Essie Fiji doesn’t look the way it did when I bought it. It had lost its pinkness and looked just an off-white color. When I was using up OPI’s Look at My Bow! I decided to put the last drops of the OPI into the Essie bottle to make it pink again. It was also a way to use up Look at My Bow! because it was difficult to get the last drops out of the bottle with the brush. I decided to call this new polish Strawberry Milk because that’s what it looks like. I haven’t had a chance to wear this one yet.

The next four polishes were bought during one weekend when I went a little crazy. But as with the previous ones I have excuses for these, too!

Sally Hansen Beatnik, Catrice Summer Nights' Sky, Chanel Mediterranée, Essie Naughty Nautical

Sally Hansen Beatnik, Catrice Summer Nights’ Sky, Chanel Mediterranée, Essie Naughty Nautical

Sally Hansen Beatnik I haven’t worn yet but I really hope it will be a lovely purple shade. In a lot of pictures it looks blue, so maybe this is again one of those bluish purples, but it seems to be something I really like.

I was so amazed to see Catrice nail polishes in one store here in Finland that just had to buy one from them! They are not expensive and they happened to have a color in their collection that I didn’t already have, so I picked Summer Nights’ Sky. I put this on as soon as I got home and I like it a lot! It looks somewhat darker on the nails than in the bottle, because in the bottle you can see silver shimmer that doesn’t come across on the nail. But it’s still a lovely polish.

I was wearing Depend 255 on my nails when I came across this Chanel nail polish in Mediterranée on clearance that weekend. It’s not exactly the same as Depend 255 is (or was, since I used it up) a matte shade and the Chanel polish is not. Also the shade is a little different. But nevertheless the Chanel polish is a good replacement for the Depend polish. Also, you simply cannot pass up an opportunity to buy a Chanel nail polish when it only costs 9 euros!

The last polish to mention here is a back-up for my Essie Naughty Nautical. I saw all of the Naughty Nauticals in a clearance bin at a store and also saw that they were not included in the permanent collection anymore. This lead me to think that they were discontinuing it so I had to buy a back-up for one of my favorite polishes. When I got home, I noticed that the two Naughty Nauticals look different, the newer one is darker than the one I already had. This leads me to think that Essie polishes don’t hold their color very well in storage because I’ve had this happen to a lot of my Essie polishes. I may have to think if it is worth it to buy Essies in the future.

I also bought a bigger bottle of OPI Say Hello Kitty! in January, but it is not shown here because it is a birthday present to myself. It will be added to my collection tomorrow :)

All this buying of polish caused me a lot of stress and anxiety, not because they were bad purchases – on the contrary, I love them! – but because of the amount of polish I now have. I now own over 100 polishes again and I don’t like it. So, in February I won’t be buying any new polishes and I will probably also look through my collection if there is something I can live without.

So this was everything for now, until next time!

Project Update: January 2017

January was a success in some ways and a failure in other ways. I managed to use up two polishes but didn’t use many of the polishes I picked for the main project. The reason for the latter is that I mainly concentrated using the polishes I wanted to use and most of them weren’t in the current project. I’m not to worried about this, though, because it’s only the beginning of the year and because I did manage to use up two polishes.

I am worried about the amount of polishes I bought in January, though. I allowed myself to buy some in the beginning of the month because I hadn’t bought any at the end of the year. And then I saw some really good offers on nail polish and some interesting looking polishes, so I bought some more. So now, the total number of polishes in my collection is exactly 100. I didn’t want to reach that number again, since I got below it already, so it makes me feel a bit disappointed in myself. However, I can get below 100 just by using up one polish and by refraining from buying new ones for a while.

In the picture below, you can see the two that I used up, which are Depend 255 and OPI Look at My Bow!. The only other polish I used that was in the project was Mavala Candy Apple.

Project #2 has 14 polishes in it and I used one of them last month. These polishes are the ones I used only on my toes last year and the goal is to use them on the fingers this year.

Project #3 has sixteen polishes, some are the same as in project #2. Here I also used only one polish this month. These are the polishes that I bought last year but only used once. This project helps me decide whether I need to keep these polishes in my collection.

I succeeded in using both of my textured polishes once this month as was the plan. OPI Magazine Cover Mouse I used three times, actually. I decided to add Deborah Lippmann Candy Shop to this category as well because it might be difficult for me to use up otherwise.

All in all, January was a success but I’m pretty pissed at myself for buying so many polishes that it mars the progress I made. I could possibly compensate by not buying any polishes in February, so maybe I will do that!

That’s all folks!

Plans and projects for 2017

Last year was successful when it comes to the amount of polishes I used up. However, it would have been better if I didn’t buy as many as I bought. This year I’m going to limit my buying by allowing myself to buy a polish only after one has been used up. Having said that, I have already bought polishes this year even though I have used up none. At first, I wanted to sort of reward myself for doing so well in not buying anything in the last months of the year, and allowed myself to buy a few, keeping in mind that 99 polishes is the absolute highest number of polishes I will allow my collection to have. Since I’ve gotten the number below 100 I don’t want to cross that line again.

After buying three polishes I thought it would be a good time to start the “use one up, get one” but conveniently forgot this when looking at the clearance bin at a store yesterday. I also ordered one online and I think I will call it a birthday present to myself even though my birthday won’t be until mid-February. From this day forward, I will only buy a polish after I’ve used up one, and this decision will stick! (I hope!) It would be great to be able to concentrate on using the polishes I already own than constantly getting new ones.

Because last year’s projects went so well, I have high hopes for the projects I’ve come up with for this year. I have made up a list of 27 polishes which I will want to use up this year. I know for a fact that I won’t be able to use up all of them but for some I will be happy if half of the bottle is used up by the end of the year. It will then be easy to use up next year.

Since 27 polishes is a bit much to have in one project (as I learned at the end of last year), I’m going to have 5-7 polishes in a project at a time and then add one as I use up one. I will write the list at the end of the updates and as I use things up, I will cross out the name so that you can see what has been used up.

These are the polishes I picked in the project first:

IMG_0603 pieniFrom left to right we have: Make up Store Asun, L’oreal Confettis, Mavala Candy Apple, Essie Lilacism, Essie Blanc, Depend 255, OPI Look at My Bow!. As the level of the polish is difficult to see in some bottles, here is a picture where I have marked the lines:

IMG_0604 pieniIn this first batch the easiest to use up are Depend 255, OPI Look at my Bow!, L’oreal Confettis and Mavala Candy Apple. I don’t think the other three will be all that difficult to use up, either, it will only take longer to use them up. As I did last year, I’ll try to use each polish in the project at least once a month and will allow myself to use other polishes as well because it seems to be the best way for me to stick with the project.

The rest of the polishes I wish to use up are shown in the next three pictures below.

IMG_0606 pieniOPI Petal Soft, OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender, OPI Kiss Me at Midnight, OPI Magazine Cover Mouse, MAC Impassioned, Essie A Crewed Interest, Essie Trophy Wife.

IMG_0607 pieniKone Helsinki U15, Rimmel Show Off, P2 Rich & Royal, The Body Shop Minty Amour, Essence Glorious Aquarius, Deborah Lippmann Candy Shop.

IMG_0608 pieniOPI 5 Apples Tall, OPI Super Cute in Pink, OPI Say Hello Kitty, OPI Small + Cute = <3, OPI Spoken from the Heart, Frank Evening Sky, Depend 412.

Why I have chosen these polishes to be used up is different for each polish. The mini-OPI’s are here because they seem easy to use up because they are so small. Some of them, like Depend 412, Essie Trophy Wife and P2 Rich & Royal, are dupes to something else in my collection. I haven’t been able to decide which of the dupes to get rid of, so I might as well use up one of them. The glitter polishes are here because I have so many of them. They are also relatively easy to use up since glitter takes up more room in the bottle than regular polish and thus when you use it, you use up more than you would a regular polish in one manicure. The textured polishes by OPI, Kiss Me at Midnight and Magazine Cover Mouse I want to use up because I’m getting over the textured trend. And finally, some bottles have been in my collection a long time, like Rimmel Show Off, OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender and Essie A Crewed Interest and it’s time to give them some more love.

My plan for the textured polishes is a little different than for the others. I thought I would wear each of the textured polish once a month this year and try to use them up that way. There might be more than 12 manicures left in those bottles but at least I would have used them 12 times this year.

As for last year, for this year I have other projects than the one just described. Since I used all the polishes I owned last year, using the ones I didn’t use won’t be a project for this year. I am not going to try to use every single polish I own this year because it was far too stressful last year. Instead, I’m going to have two other projects that are going to be very easy to finish, since there is some overlapping in the lists.

Project #2 is a list of polishes that I only wore on my toes last year, the idea is to use them on the fingers and see if I still like them on my fingers as well. There are some polishes that I only like on my toes and not on my fingers. I don’t like to keep too many polishes like that in my collection, since it’s better to have polishes that can be worn on both fingers and toes. Here are the polishes in this project. I admit, not the greatest pictures in the world, but since there’s no natural daylight even in daytime, there’s not much I can do about that this time of year.

IMG_0611 pieniPicture Polish Enchanting, Depend 393, Bourjois Turquoise Block, Chanel April, OPI Spoken from the Heart, OPI 5 Apples Tall, OPI Super Cute in Pink, OPI Small + Cute = <3.

Project #3 consists of polishes I bought last year but only used once. This project helps me evaluate whether I need to keep these polishes in my collection.

IMG_0612 pieniDepend 481, Depend 393, Bourjois Turquoise Block, Essence Play with my Mint, OPI Say Hello Kitty, OPI Spoken from the Heart, OPI 5 Apples Tall, OPI Super Cute in Pink, OPI Small + Cute = <3.

IMG_0613 pieniSally Hansen Combustealble, Essie Take Me to Thread, Essence Pink Parrot, Sally Hansen Giant Peach, Mavala Freesia, Natural Code by Lumene Rebel Royal, Sensinity 91.

Some of these polishes appear in all of the projects and I’m sure you will be sick of reading about them by the end of the year and I will be sick of writing about them. Let’s hope I will be able to finish most of them so I won’t have to write about them next year!

So, I think this was everything I wanted to say this time. Next, I thought I would show you some of my favorite polishes of last year. I also noticed that I forgot to show you my pink polishes when I was writing the collection posts, so that post is also coming.

Until next time!

2016 Statistics

This is the post where I reflect on the year that just ended and see if I’ve made any progress.

In the year 2016 I reached my goal of owning less than 100 polishes. At the beginning of the year I owned 124 nail polishes, but I ended up bringing back three polishes that I had previously decluttered, making the total number 127. In 2016 I bought 33 new polishes and made one, so 34 new polishes came into the collection. All in all, 64 polishes left my collection, 14 of them were used up. (Since the last post, I used up Depend 5.) In addition, I decided to start counting my back-up polishes in the total number of polishes because I felt like I was cheating myself by not counting them in. I have currently 3 different back-up polishes. After all this back and forth, I now own 95 nail polishes.

Last year I counted how many different polishes I used in 2015, this year I’m not going to do that because I don’t feel it’s necessary anymore. I have less than one hundred nail polishes, all of which I used last year.

Like I said, I used up 14 polishes in 2016. I find that pretty impressive even though some of the polishes were small 5ml bottles. This year I’m going to try to top that and use up more. I now have less polishes than last year, I won’t try to use every single polish I own and I’m hoping I don’t buy as many polishes this year. All of these reasons make me think I can use up more than 14 polishes.

At the beginning of last year I had 17 sheets of nail stickers. I now have 12 sheets, which means I have used up 5 sheets in one year.

In addition to sticker sheets and nail polishes, I used up four base coats and three top coats.

Finally, some pictures. Here’s a picture of some of the products I used up last year. Unfortunately I didn’t save all of them due to the fact that I moved and didn’t want to haul empty products with me. The picture contains the products I used up after I moved into this apartment, so it has six months worth of used up items.

The last months of the year I wasn’t allowed to buy any new nail polishes, this was a punishment for the excessive buying that happened especially in August. I managed to stay away from buying polish and I hope that I have learned to think carefully before buying. I have to say that it definitely helped to have a friend with me who was also not buying polish.

That’s all for the statistics for the year 2016!

Coming up is an introduction to the new project, as well as my other plans for 2017. I’m also planning to show some of my favorite polishes of 2016. So, see you soon!

Project Update: December

I know it’s not the end of the month quite yet, but I wanted to wrap up this project and move on to using other polishes. I have been using the same polishes from mid-September onward and I am in need of a change. I cheated a couple of times in the past few weeks but didn’t realize it until now, when I’m doing my statistics for the month. On the whole this last project for the year was a success, I managed to use up some polishes even though there were definitely too many polishes in the project.

Let’s go over the progress with the polishes that I focused on for the last three and a half months. First, the polishes I didn’t use at all:

Depend 412, Essie Trophy Wife, L'oreal Confettis, OPI Kiss Me at Midnight

Depend 412, Essie Trophy Wife, L’oreal Confettis, OPI Kiss Me at Midnight

There were four polishes I didn’t have a chance to wear at all. I wanted to wear all of them but I always chose something else over these.

Golden Rose 120, Isadora Icy Purple, Color Club Holiday Splendor, Natural Code by Lumene Rosy Gold

These are the four polishes I managed to use up since mid-September. Also, there is one manicure left in Depend 5, the wine red nail polish, I think I will be able to use it up before the end of the year, still. Color Club Holiday Splendor I used to make Christmas decorations with, instead of using it on my nails, because I didn’t feel like using it on my nails anymore.

The next two pictures below show the polishes I wore in December.

Essie Lilacism, Make Up Store Asun, Depend 255, Depend 5

Essie Lilacism, Make Up Store Asun, Depend 255, Depend 5

These are the polishes I made the most progress on in December. I made two manicures with Essie Lilacism, though they were on the same day because I managed to ruin the first manicure. Make Up Store Asun I wore four times this month. Most of the time I wore it without using the bigger glitter pieces because it requires some extra work to get the bigger pieces on the nail. The bigger glitters are sparse and they tend to settle very quickly on the bottom of the bottle. This is also the reason I want to use up this bottle as soon as possible, so you will see this polish in a project soon. Depend 255, the teal polish, I used only once this month, because I thought I would save it for January and use it up then, thus enabling me to wear shades more suitable for Christmas time, like Depend 5, which I wore six times this month. I hope I can finish it the next time I use it!

OPI Paint My Moji-Toes Red, Rimmel Show Off, Rimmel Cocktail Passion, OPI Magazine Cover Mouse

OPI Paint My Moji-Toes Red, Rimmel Show Off, Rimmel Cocktail Passion, OPI Magazine Cover Mouse

It’s difficult to see the progress with these four polishes because they are such big bottles but I did wear all of these this month. OPI Paint My Moji-Toes Red and Rimmel Cocktail Passion I only wore on my toes, so there is the least progress with these two. Rimmel’s Show Off I tried on my fingers for the first time in years. This is usually a toe nail polish for me but since I want to use this up eventually, I may have to start wearing it on my fingers more often. OPI Magazine Cover Mouse I wore twice but the line of polish didn’t go down very much. However, I am almost half way down the bottle already with this polish.

There were six other polishes in this project that I didn’t use this month. Here they are in pictures so that you can see the overall progress.

Essie Blanc, P2 Rich & Royal, Frank Evening Sky

In a way I also used up the polish I made, Frank Evening Sky, but since I made it again, and the overall amount of polishes didn’t go down, I didn’t count it as used up.

All in all there wasn’t much progress on the polishes I didn’t use up even though I used most of them more than once. I think this is due to the fact that there were so many of them and that some of them were big bottles. This experiment has shown me that it is better to have around five polishes in a project at one time, so that it is easier to use things up.

Part of the project was also to refrain from buying new ones, which I’m happy to say I accomplished! I only bought the replacement for Golden Rose 120, which was the Essence Pink Parrot. We shall forget the fact that I bought two of them…

Speaking of polishes I bought, this brings me to the next subject, which is my upcoming posts. I was thinking of making some statistics for this year as I did for last year. I will also write a post about the polishes I bought this year. Also coming up is my plans for next year, as well as my favorite polishes and combinations this year, so there will be a few posts in the next week.

Project Update: November

Another month has gone by and it’s time to show the progress!

I managed to finish three nail polishes completely as well as one base coat and top coat in November. You can see them in the photo below.

Golden Rose 120, Natural Code by Lumene Rosy Gold, Color Club Holiday Splendor, Essence Anti Split Nsil Sealer, Poshé Top Coat

Isn’t it relaxing to look at empty nail polish bottles? It is to me :D

I finally had the heart to finish Golden Rose 120. It was a very lovely shade and even though I found the Essence nail polish in Pink Parrot that is similar, it is not the same. I will miss this polish but I think I will be OK.

I also managed to use up Natural Code by Lumene’s Rosy Gold. This was easier to use up, since it had a thicker consistency and because it wasn’t a favorite.

Color Club’s Holiday Splendor I actually used up by painting Christmas ornaments with it. This polish used to be one of my favorite polishes and I even mentioned it in the post where I showed some of my favorites at the beginning of the year. When I wore it in November, however, I felt like I didn’t want to show my nails when I had it on. Is still liked the color, though, so I wanted to come up with another way of using it, so I could still enjoy it.

My collection of base coats decreased by one as I used up the Essence base coat that supposedly seals peeling nails. It probably worked, too, but it was very thick and got even thicker towards the end making it difficult to use. For that reason, I wouldn’t buy this again.

I also used up the Poshé super-fast drying top coat. It really did dry the manicure just as fast as Seche Vite, but it smudged nail art a bit.

Next I will show you the progress I made with the other polishes in the project.

Depend 5, Depend 255, OPI Magazine Cover Mouse, OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender, P2 Rich & Royal, Frank Evening Sky

Depend 5, Depend 255, OPI Magazine Cover Mouse, OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender, P2 Rich & Royal, Frank Evening Sky

The lowest line shows where the polish was at the end of November because otherwise it would be difficult to see the progress, since the lighting isn’t the best this time of year.

These are the six polishes I used in November besides the ones I used up. I decided to concentrate on a few polishes so that I could possibly use up a couple more before the end of the year, so that’s why I only used six other polishes. I used both of the Depend polishes several times last month and hopefully I can finish up one of them this month. I haven’t decided which one I’m going to concentrate on, yet.

I used up my own mixture called Evening Sky last month and tried to make it again, not fully succeeding, though. It’s not quite as dark of a purple as I would like it to be, but it will do for now.

As far as the other project I had left goes, I completed it! At the beginning of November, I had three polishes left that I had not touched this year and I managed to use all of them last month. So now I can concentrate on using up one, possibly two polishes in December.

I already have some projects in mind for next year but I will reveal them once we get closer to the new year. I will also be doing some statistics for this year and will post them here, because that’s what I like to do.

Until next time!
