The Collection: Neutrals

After a few week’s break it’s time to introduce the next set of polishes in my collection. This time we are going to go through the neutrals. There are eight polishes that fit in this category and I got rid of two of them. I am on the fence about one of them but the rest I simply love so I’m not even contemplating on getting rid of those. These are the neutral nail polishes in my collection:

Now let’s take a closer look at the polishes.

Essie Spaghetti Strap, Muchi Muchi, Fiji and A Crewed Interest

Essie Spaghetti Strap, Muchi Muchi, Fiji and A Crewed Interest

Over half of this category consisted of Essie polishes and that would be fine if they were all different enough. Spaghetti Strap and Muchi Muchi were just too similar to keep both and at first I thought I would keep just one of them and had a hard time deciding which one to keep. In the end I decided to get rid of both, however, because of two reasons. One: I like polishes that are opaque and neither of these were. Two: I realized in the store that my polishes had lost their color because they should be light pink shades. My bottles didn’t have any pinkness to them at all.

Fiji and A Crewed Interest are among my favorite polishes and they are staying. A Crewed Interest starts to be a few years old so I may have to start using it more often to use it up before it goes bad.

Essie Eternal Optimist, Rimmel Peachella, Depend 347, Mavala Sweet

Essie Eternal Optimist, Rimmel Peachella, Depend 347, Mavala Sweet

Essie’s Eternal Optimist is a lovely darker neutral shade that I like to pair with Essie’s glitter polish A Cut Above. I hadn’t realized that these two nail polishes go together until I saw that they sell the polishes in a set during Christmas time. Rimmel’s Peachella is next to the Essie polish and I bought it to see if it would replace Essie’s A Crewed Interest once I have used it up, but it’s not a dupe because Peachella is darker than A Crewed Interest. I prefer the lighter version but the darker Peachella is not bad either. This is the polish I am on the fence about but I’m keeping it for now because I thought I would try and add some white polish in it to make it lighter and maybe get the color a bit more like A Crewed Interest.

Depend 347 is one of the polishes that was sent to me in a subscription box one time and this is the only one that I have kept because this is something that I actually like and wear. First I thought it would be one of those sheer pinks that hardly cover anything but it actually covers the nail pretty well. I’m glad this came in the box because I probably wouldn’t have bought it if it hadn’t.

The last polish to mention in this bunch is Mavala’s Sweet. This is a polish to be used in the spring and summer when you don’t have to use as much artificial lighting. This looks much better in daylight than indoors under artificial lights, in which it looks orange. And I don’t like orange nail polish.

So those were the neutral polishes in my collection. I will probably get another post out pretty soon so that I would finally finish this series.

So, see you soon!

The Collection: Reds

It is time for the fourth to last part of my nail polish collection! This post will feature all of my reds. After this all we have left are my pinks, neutrals and miscellaneous nail polishes. Also, if you want to see all of the base and top coats I have, that would make another post. So technically this would be the fifth to last part of my collection. But who’s counting?

I have ten bottles that fit in this category and here they are:

The Reds

The Reds

Most of these polishes in this category are fall and winter time shades but there are one or two that are appropriate for spring and summer. Of these ten shades I was able to remove one.

Let’s take a closer look at the polishes!

China Glaze Peppermint to Be, Zoya Arianna, OPI Magazine Cover Mouse

China Glaze Peppermint to Be, Zoya Arianna, OPI Magazine Cover Mouse

In this first picture, two of the three polishes were bought last December, they are the one in the middle and the one on the left. The site where I sometimes buy nail polish from had an offer on China Glaze polishes and of course I had to buy one! At first, I thought about buying Son of a Nutcracker from the Cheers collection but ended up ordering Peppermint to Be from the same collection instead. I couldn’t get Son of a Nutcracker out of my mind, though, so I ended up ordering that one later, too. At the same time, since I was making an order, I ordered another polish that I had longed for a while, not because it was a particularly beautiful color, but because of its name. I am speaking of Zoya’s Arianna. I got it so that I could have a polish in my collection that had my name on it:

Zoya Sarianna?

Zoya Sarianna?

I know it’s lame but I can’t help it! Arianna is not actually a bad color but it would look better on my nails if it had a little less blue in it.

Next to Zoya’s Arianna is OPI’s Magazine Cover Mouse which is one of their liquid sand polishes a.k.a. textured polishes. It looks like I have used a ton of it but textured polishes are so thick that you use up a lot more polish in one manicure than with regular polishes. You may remember this polish from my favorites post and it still is one of my favorites!

OK, moving on to the next set:

OPI All I Want for Christmas (is OPI), OPI Red, From A to Z-urich

OPI All I Want for Christmas (is OPI), OPI Red, From A to Z-urich

All I Want for Christmas (is OPI) is one of the best nail polish names I have ever heard! So naturally I had to get the polish in my collection. I’m not sure if this is going to stay in my collection, though, I will have to try it on in the fall to remind myself what this looked like. This is definitely one of those polishes that I would not want to wear this time of year, so this would not be the appropriate time to try this on.

The polish in the middle of the picture is OPI Red which I really like on my toes. I don’t think I have ever tried it on my fingers. I bought this last year so I haven’t had time to play with it that much yet.

The only polish I’m getting rid of this time is OPI’s From A to Z-urich. It’s a lovely color but since I have several other dark red shades in my collection, I’d better reduce the amount by one at least.

Chanel April, OPI Paint My Moji-toes Red, Depend 5, Mavala Candy Apple

Chanel April, OPI Paint My Moji-toes Red, Depend 5, Mavala Candy Apple

Chanel’s April is very similar to OPI’s From A to Z-urich and I’d rather keep the Chanel one since I paid more money for it. OPI’s Paint My Moji-toes Red is one of my favorite colors to wear on my toes but I recently tried this on my fingernails and I loved it there, too. I think it’s a yellow based red which tend to suit me better. Depend 5 is more of a brick red nail polish and I like it a lot during the fall/winter time.

Mavala’s Candy Apple is the most recent addition to this collection of reds as I bought it in January. It was a freezing weather outside when I bought it, at least 23 degrees below zero and the top of the bottle didn’t handle the cold very well. Candy Apple is a red jelly polish, lovely for those jelly sandwiches that I like.

So that was it, all of my red polishes!

I don’t expect there to be a drastic change in this color category this year. I may get rid of All I want for Christmas (is OPI) and I might be able to use up Depend 5 but other than that I don’t think there will be changes. But that’s OK as long as I don’t get many new ones.

I hope you enjoyed reading this and see you till next time!

The Project: End of April Update

Around mid April I chose six nail polishes to include in the current project to use up. I allowed myself to use other polishes too so that I wouldn’t get bored. This means, though, that there won’t be rapid progress with the polishes but I think it is important that painting your nails remains fun.

I managed to use most of the polishes at least once even though I only started the project a few weeks ago. I marked the level of the polish in the bottle when I started so that it will be easier to see the progress I am making with the them.

Here’s the current situation in the project:

Depend 255, Golden Rose 120, Isadora Icy Purple, Depend 34, Lumene Pink Ribbon, Isadora Cotton Candy

Depend 255, Golden Rose 120, Isadora Icy Purple, Depend 34, Lumene Pink Ribbon, Isadora Cotton Candy

The polishes I didn’t get to use yet are the two polishes on the far left of the picture, namely Depend 255 and Golden Rose 120. Isadora’s Icy Purple I wore once on my fingers and once on my toes. Depend 34 was once on my toes and Lumene’s Pink Ribbon nail polish was once on my fingers. The Lumene polish wasn’t pictured when I introduced this current project but here you can see what it looks like if you didn’t know. Isadora’s Cotton Candy looks like it’s been used more than once but I actually used four coats when I used it. First I put on three coats because I felt that two weren’t enough. Then I made the mistake of putting a shiny top coat over it and I didn’t like the look of the polish when it was shiny. The polish dries to a matte finish like textured polishes do. So I put on one more coat to make it matte again.

In the month of April I also used my Depend Glitter Base Coat several times. I am about half way through the bottle at the moment which you can see in this picture:

Depend Glitter Base Coat and Seche Restore

Depend Glitter Base Coat and Seche Restore

I don’t think I have shown you the progress I’ve made with Seche Restore since I started to use it at the beginning of the year. As you can see I have used it a good bit this year and it is possible to use it up by the end of the year, I think.

I managed to use up two products this month, one nail polish and one cuticle oil.

Finished!

Finished!

I was happy to notice that there was less product left in the bottle of Sally Hansen’s cuticle oil than it looked like in the last update, so I was able to finish this finally! And as I have removed some polishes from my collection I have had to cover the swatches of them using white nail polish. Doing this I used up Sally Hansen’s White On nail polish. The only white nail polish I had left at this point was Essie’s Blanc and I didn’t want to use that to cover swatches, so I bought a cheaper white nail polish from Essence called Wild White Ways. You can see it in the next picture with the cuticle oil from Dermosil and keratin treatment from Trind I am using now as the Sally Hansen cuticle oil is finished.

IMG_0506 pieniIt is going to be difficult to show the progress on the Dermosil Cuticle Balm Walnut because it is in a tube. Also, it will take a long time to use up since it has 15 ml of product in it. I don’t think it will be finished by the end of the year but it’s OK as long as I actually use it.

The last item I am going to mention and show you is the base coat I am¬†currently using. It is Trind Keratin Nail Protector and it won’t take too long to use up as it is already over half way down the bottle.

The Base Coat of the Moment

The Base Coat of the Moment

So that was this month’s progress update! I am pretty happy with it as I used up a cuticle oil that has been around for some time and I got rid of some polishes that I didn’t want in my collection anymore.¬† Most of the polishes I got rid of you have seen in my collection posts. However, you don’t know that I decided to get rid of Essie’s Turquoise & Caicos because I noticed as I was looking at a bottle of it in the store that it looks different than mine. So I figured, either my bottle was faulty to begin with or it has changed over time. At first I thought I would get rid of the old bottle buy a new one but I decided not to get a new one at this time because I already have so many polishes in the turquoise family already.

Another polish I got rid of is also by Essie. I tried on Serial Shopper recently and noticed that despite it looking coral in the bottle, it is pure orange on the nails. And I never want to wear orange nail polish even though this particular orange looked nice on the finger nails. I absolutely hated it on my toes!

I am happy to report you that I now have 92 nail polishes in my collection! It is still a lot but it is starting to consist of only polishes that I like and this makes me really happy! There are still a couple that I am on the fence about and need to use them before making up my mind but on the whole I am a happy camper! And it looks like I don’t buy new nail polishes just because they’re nail polish anymore. It really helped to put them in color categories for the collection photos so that I see how many similar colors I already have.

I hoped you enjoyed reading this!

The next post will be another part of my collection posts!
